What is Impulse?

Impulse is a financial tracking app designed to help you control impulse buying. Our mission is to help you make more mindful spending decisions and save money.

How much does Impulse cost?

Impulse offers two subscription options:

  • Monthly: £13.99 per month
  • Annual: £49.99 per year (equivalent to £4.17 per month)

Why did you create Impulse?

We created Impulse to help people take control of their spending habits. Many of us struggle with impulse purchases that we later regret. By providing tools to track, categorise, and reflect on spending, we help users make more mindful decisions with their money.

Where is Impulse available?

Impulse is currently available in the United States. We plan to expand to other regions in the future.

When will Impulse be available on Android?

Impulse is currently only available on iOS. We're working on Android support and will announce its availability soon.

Is Impulse secure?

Yes, security is a top priority at Impulse. We use bank-level encryption to protect your financial data, and we never store your bank credentials. We use Plaid, a trusted financial services provider, to connect to your bank accounts securely. Read more in our Privacy Policy.

Account

How do I create an account?

You can create an account by downloading the Impulse app from the App Store and following the onboarding process. You'll need to sign in with your Apple or Google account and link at least one bank account to get started.

Why do I need to link my bank accounts?

Linking your bank accounts allows Impulse to automatically track your transactions, making it easier to identify and categorise your spending. We use Plaid, a secure third-party service, to connect to your financial institutions.

Is my financial data safe?

Yes, we take data security very seriously. We use bank-level encryption to protect your data, and we never store your bank credentials. All sensitive information is encrypted at rest, and we follow industry best practices for data security.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account from the Settings page in the app. When you delete your account, all your personal data will be permanently removed from our servers.

What happens if my linked bank account expires?

If your bank account link expires, you'll receive a notification in the app. You can easily relink your account from the Settings page.

The App

How does transaction categorisation work?

When new transactions appear in your linked accounts, Impulse will show them to you one by one. For each transaction, we'll suggest two possible categories based on our AI analysis. You can either select one of these categories, search for a different category, or mark the transaction as an impulse purchase.

What is the "Impulse button"?

The Impulse button allows you to mark a transaction as an impulse purchase. Pressing this button will reset your "days without impulse purchase" streak. This feature helps you become more aware of your impulse buying habits.

What is the Wishlist feature?

The Wishlist feature allows you to add items you want to buy but want to wait before purchasing. You can add items manually, from a link, or using an image. Each item has a waiting period, and you'll receive a notification when the waiting period is over. This helps prevent impulse purchases by giving you time to consider if you really want the item.

What visualisations does Impulse provide?

Impulse provides polished charts and visualisations to help you understand your spending patterns. These include category breakdowns, spending trends over time, and progress towards your spending limits.

How does the meditation feature work?

Impulse includes a simple meditation feature with breathing exercises to help you manage the urge to make impulse purchases. This feature is designed to promote mindful spending decisions.

What is the AI chat feature?

The AI chat feature provides support and answers to your questions about the app and your financial habits. You can ask for advice, explanations about features, or general financial guidance.

Privacy and Data

How is my financial data used?

Your financial data is used solely to provide the services within the app. We analyse your transactions to help you categorise them and understand your spending patterns. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. For more details, please review our Privacy Policy.

How does Plaid integration work?

Impulse uses Plaid to securely connect to your financial institutions. When you link an account, Plaid allows us to access your transaction data without storing your bank credentials. This connection is encrypted and follows industry best practices for financial data security.

Does Impulse store my bank login credentials?

No, Impulse never stores your bank login credentials. The connection to your bank is facilitated by Plaid, which uses tokenisation to maintain the connection without exposing your credentials.

How long is my data retained?

We retain your data as long as you maintain an active account with Impulse. When you delete your account, all your personal data is permanently removed from our servers.
